Guest post by Cape Fusion Tour Guide, Pam McOnie

This section aims to be an update of new restaurants that I have tried or want to try in Cape Town and the surrounding wine regions. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list—merely a list of what looks really exciting for this season. We are blessed to live in Cape Town, a creative hub where new restaurants open all the time. As such, our aim is to keep working our way through the exciting offerings in our city!

If you missed Part I or Part II of this post, view them by clicking the links below:

Part I

Part II

New Mexican Restaurants: There seems to be a theme of opening authentic Mexican restaurants this season. This has been great fun as I am advised that what we were offering previously was more TexMex and not a great reflection of a country that has diverse cuisine offerings. This new trend was started with the opening of Cosecha Restaurant on Noble Hill Wine estate last year. This is a fabulous addition to the Mexican offering! Two new Mexican restaurants that have opened in the central area of Cape Town include:

El Burro: This is a wonderful new addition to our restaurant scene. It is intimate, relaxing, and a fun spot to hang out for an evening with friends. Note this is not fine dining; it would best be summed up as a Mexican cafe. The food is interesting—not gourmet. It is well-priced, great for drinks, and has funky décor—including cactuses, skeletons, and fairy lights. It is a great place for a relaxing evening. 81 Main Road, Greenpoint, 1st floor exhibition building, Cape Town. Tel +27 (21) 433 2364 Open Mon-Sat 12pm-11:30pm

San Julian: This is the first time I have actually been to a Mexican restaurant in this country that is owned by real Mexicans. The family that has opened this spot is really warm and lovely. You will want to go back just because of the fact that they are so warm and welcoming. As with any Mexican restaurant opening in this country, they face the challenge of finding the correct ingredients. They quickly realized that they would need to be making their own fresh tortillas and most things from scratch as the basics were completely missing. We really enjoyed our evening here. They have done the decor themselves and you can see it is a mix of items from their home and their lives. The food was surprisingly a little bland, the margaritas, however, were really good and we had an amazing evening here. I would rate this spot highly as a really friendly local spot where it is fun to experience something a little different. Tel: +27 (21) 419 4233. Address: 3 Rose Street, Between Waterkant and Strand Street, Greenpoint, Cape Town (Note it is just above Truth Coffee) Open evenings only Mon – Sat.

Trinity Cape Town: Ok, so this inclusion is not due to the fact that this will be a gourmet spot, more that it is an interesting inclusion on the Cape Town scene. We tend to have restaurants and then we have clubs—very few combine the formula. Trinity is planned to be a new trendy club hot spot in Cape Town and will combine three restaurants into the club—they opened in December 2010. www.trinitycapetown.co.za 15 Bennett Street, Greenpoint. Tel +27 (74) 237 8694

Image above taken from www.TrinityCapeTown.co.za

Hemelhuis: This spot is in the hub of the inner city and is turning into a fast favorite for lunch (close to the pedestrian bridge on Buitengracht St.). I have had at least three people rave to me about the chicken, which is stuffed with marzipan and dried apricot stuffing. This is a combo concept of restaurant and ceramics store. Being owned by one of the former owners of Manna Epicure it comes highly recommended for a “pit stop” while exploring the Cape Town inner city. Open for breakfast and lunch Mon – Sat. Tel no: +27 (21) 418-2042 Address: 71 Waterkant Street.

Sounds like the perfect day to me! This is exactly the kind of experience travelers receive when they embark on a gourmet tour through the Cape Malay Quarter (also known as the Bo-Kaap) in Cape Town, South Africa.

Below are some highlights travelers experience while on this food-devoted tour:

A tour through the Bo-Kaap area: Discover the beauty of the Cape Malay Quarter on a brief tour before your cooking class begins. On this tour, you’ll learn about the history of the area and culinary influences that date back to the 1600s when the Dutch East India Company settled in the area in 1652. Many of the dishes that you will be cooking during your class were influenced by these settlers and the slaves that they brought in from Indonesia, Malaysia, Madagascar, and India. Specifically, the Dutch brought over recipes that were quite bland and the slaves would cook these dishes, adding spices and recipes from their homeland.

An afternoon cooking traditional Cape Malay cuisine at a local home: The fun has just begun as you enter into a local community member’s home to cook up traditional Cape Malay favorites. You’ll experience a hands-on cooking course from local as you taste new spices and wines, and chat with other travelers in your group.

During this extensive cooking class, you’ll learn about the Ying and the Yang of the Cape spices and how the balance of spices affects the flavors of each dish. Some dishes you’ll learn to cook might include roti—a flaky, pastry-like dish filled with curry and minced lamb or chicken; samosa—a delicious triangular pastry filled with curry, cheese, and chicken or lamb, that is deep fried to perfection; bobotie—one of my favorite dishes, which is comprised of ground beef cooked in an egg custard (click here to see a recipe); sosaties—sweet-curry-marinated kebabs comprised of lamb, chicken, or mutton; and Bredie—a slow-cooked stew comprised of meat, vegetables and an edible lily called a waterblommetjie.

See below for a visual insight into what this cooking class is all about:

A sensational feast: It’s time to eat your culinary masterpiece! After an exciting afternoon in the kitchen, you can now relax at the table, surrounded by new-found friends and your gracious host to delight in your creations and talk about the day’s events.

For many, safari tours and the Big Five are some of the first thoughts that arise. Of course, Africa is the ultimate destination for safaris and game viewing, but there is so much more to do in Africa besides exceptional safari experiences.

One of the most fascinating elements about Africa is its extensive diversity. Comprised of 53 countries that range in climate, culture, history, landscape, cuisine, activities, accommodations, and wildlife, Africa is one of the world’s most astonishing and eclectic continents. Attracting everyone from beach addicts to ocean enthusiasts, romantics to spa lovers, and cultural buffs to wine connoisseurs, Africa is a destination for almost everyone.

Although Africa does attract a variety of different people with different interests, needs, desires, and preferences, visitors to Africa do have something in common: the desire to discover and grow.

So, what else is there to do besides game viewing? Tons! See below for an insight into the real Africa:

Cape Town City Tours: Grow, learn, discover, and uncover on a tour through the glowing city of Cape Town, South Africa. With a bustling atmosphere filled with architectural fascinations, shopping hubs, gardens, beaches, quaint bistros and cafes, mouth-watering seafood, hiking trails, and the infamous Table Mountain, Cape Town invites all sorts of individuals and various interests.

Cultural Visits: An absolute highlight among visitors to Africa, cultural visits are not only enlightening and rewarding, but they’re also often the gateway to an entirely new perspective on Africa and life in general. Almost all of the most popular destinations in Africa offer exceptional cultural visits that allow travelers to immerse themselves into local cultures and customs. Some of the best cultural tours take visitors to local schools, orphanages, and private homes, while others consist of exciting interactive bush walks or bicycling tours through local villages.

World Heritage Sites: Southern Africa is home to some of the most intriguing World Heritage Sites on earth. From cultural sites such as the Fossil Hominid Sites, Mapungubwe Cultural Landscape, Robben Island, Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape to natural sites including Vredefort Dome and the Great St. Lucia Wetland Park, Africa holds captivating secrets of the past in what remains in the present.

Golfing: As one of the top golf destinations in the world, South Africa is speckled with stunning courses that provide the avid golfer with exciting challenges around every corner. Whether looking for a five-day golf safari tour or half a day of golf, South Africa’s renowned courses can accommodate.

Each and every day (and hole for that matter) provides seasoned golfers with new challenges and experiences. For example, Leopard Creek County Club’s sixteenth hole requires balls to pass over hippo-populated waters onto a fresh green while Links at Fancourt is South Africa’s most challenging course, providing visitors with surprising twists, dips, and obstacles.

Ocean Visits: The coastline and archipelagos of Africa are bustling with beauty and infinite opportunities for exploration.

Africa’s coastlines and islands are so diverse and spectacular that they’re known for being some of the world’s top beach, scuba diving, and snorkeling destinations in the world. Africa’s waters are also home to whales, the African penguin, sharks, dolphins, and other aquatic creatures, making shark cage diving, whale watching, and swims with the penguins some of Africa’s most exciting ocean activities.

Wine Tours: There is no shortage of wine tours in Cape Winelands, South Africa. With dozens of types of tours to choose from, visitors find their time in Cape Winelands isn’t long enough. Some of the most acclaimed wine tours include wine making, personal wine tasting, VIP wine tasting, one-day village tours, horseback riding, bicycling, and hiking tours.

Fishing: Whether you’re interested in big game saltwater fishing or freshwater fishing, Africa’s rivers, lakes, and surrounding ocean are always teeming with adventure and thrilling catches.

Travelers interested in freshwater fishing have the opportunity to observe large land game and other lake dwelling creatures such as a wide variety of birds, hippos, and crocodiles as they enjoy an exciting day of fishing. One of the most popular and aggressive freshwater fish is the tigerfish, which can weigh in anywhere from 10 – 25 lbs.

Deep sea fishing, on the other hand, typically consists of larger and stronger fish depending on the time of year. Sailfish are caught the most as they are found in the area year round, while species of marlin, wahoo, kingfish, yellowfin tuna, and swordfish are typically caught between the months of October and March.

Below, our recent clients from New Orleans, the Todd family, share their amazing experiences in Africa:

The Todd Family: Trey, Beth, Amie, and Alex

“Any chance to re-live some of the life altering experiences that my family and I had on our Hills of Africa safari is most welcomed. Nothing can beat watching the African sunrise over the Okavango Delta with loved ones or feeling the exhilaration of a charging elephant testing the abilities of our dedicated guide as we back up quickly down the road! Nothing compares to the playful antics of leopard cubs wrestling in the tall savanna grass! When will we ever get another chance to view the majesty of a pride of lions against a backdrop of acacia and baobab trees or a family of cheetahs lounging on a termite mound before an evening of hunting impala.

The magic of Africa now runs through me as surely as if I were a child of the Kalahari leaving my footprints next to the spoor of the hyaena. This same magic that rekindled the passions of my daughters and wife for nature and the great outdoors. Everyone needs to share the experiences of a trip like this with their loved ones. It was unforgettable, spiritually uplifting, and truly just fodder for the soul. Throw in a couple of World Cup soccer games and I believe one has found the formula for the perfect holiday!

Many thanks to the Hills of Africa people who made this trip a reality for my family. Thanks to the staff of the Chitabe, Tubi Tree and Duma Tau camps for the meals, the dancing and entertainment, and the camaraderie. Thanks to the extremely knowledgeable guides for teaching us the species and the environmental impact of everything we do. Lastly, thank you Sandy for helping us get through a very trying time when we thought all the preparation would be for naught after we missed our flight. I can’t wait to schedule our next trip to Cape Town or Kruger or to recommend your company to friends.”

You want to visit a place that rewards your family with cultural enlightenment, historical insight, and precious family bonding time.

As a culturally and historically enriched region, Cape Town and its surrounding areas are prime destinations for those looking to broaden their horizons of worldly experiences and knowledge. Although the most popular tours and historic landmarks include Table Mountain, Cape of Good Hope, Kirstenbosch Gardens, and Dies Bo Kaap, every family’s itinerary differs depending on their personal preferences and needs. No two itineraries are alike.

Below is a 7-day sample itinerary that is designed to give you a better idea for what you and your family could expect on an African family vacation to the Cape Town region:

Day 1: The Mother City Tour: This tour celebrates the best of what Cape Town has to offer. After your first, peaceful night in Cape Town’s luxurious Mount Nelson Hotel, you will awake to a nourishing, traditional English breakfast in one of the hotel’s fine dining areas. After your meal, you will embark on a journey through historic Cape Town.

First, you will enjoy a tour up Table Mountain via rotating cable car, and then a tour of The Castle of Good Hope. Continuing on your exploration, you’ll visit gardens, the Green Point Light House, The Cape Town Stadium, V & A Waterfront, Die Bo Kaap, District Six, and the Kirstenbosch Gardens. Once you arrive at the Gardens, you will enjoy a delightful lunch, where you can reminisce about the morning’s adventures.

Day 2: The Peninsula Tour: After a rejuvenating last night at the Mount Nelson Hotel, you will embark on your next journey to Hout Bay. Here, you will take a boat to the beautiful Seal Island where you can relax and enjoy the African ocean breeze. After a day in the sun, you will head over to your next accommodation, The Last Word Long Beach Guest House.

Once you have freshened up at the hotel, you’ll be escorted to Boulders Beach where you will visit an African penguin colony and observe the penguins in their natural environment. Cape of Good Hope will be your final destination for the day.

Day 3: Wine Tastings and Butterfly Sightings: Today, you will relish in some of the Cape’s most exceptional wines when you visit Ernie Els’ wine estate for delightful wine tastings and a cellar tour. And depending on your preference of wine (red or white), you will be escorted to another wine estate where you will enjoy additional wine tastings.

For lunch, you will be brought to the award-winning Overture restaurant where you will delight in the eclectic variety of Chef Bertus Basson and Craig Cormack’s contemporary, Mediterranean, and South African culinary fusions. And don’t forget to follow the Chefs’ wine pairing suggestions!

After a spectacular lunch, you’ll visit the Butterfly World, where you and the whole family can witness a variety of butterflies, birds, reptiles, and peculiar insects.

Day 4: Taking the Scenic Route: Today, you will begin your journey from the Long Beach Guest House to the renowned Birkenhead Villa in Hermanus. During your trip, you’ll stop at various points of interest along the way as you soak in your picturesque surroundings. Whether you want to enjoy a picnic on the way, visit the penguins at Stony Point, or browse some local shops, your trip to Hermanus will, no doubt, be a memorable one.

Once you arrive at the seaside Birkenhead House, you’ll be escorted to your villa where you can lounge by the pool or sit on your private balcony as you look for whales in Walker Bay.

Day 5: The Possibilities Are Endless: Whether your family is comprised of walkers and hikers, beach lovers, ocean enthusiasts, horse lovers, or a mix of all four, Hermanus has it all. Choose from a whale watching cruise, a hike through Hermanus’ Fernkloof Nature Reserve, a relaxing day on world-renowned Grotto Beach, a Dyer Island cruise, deep sea fishing, horseback riding on the beach, or a rejuvenating day in the spa. Your every need and desire is met at Hermanus.

Imagine taking a relaxing stroll through a charming South African village, where the unique African spirit, the scent of authentic cuisine, and the joy of the local community fills the air.

When you take part in an AWOL bicycle township tour, you’re not only experiencing a breathtaking journey through Cape Town’s beautiful township, Masiphumelele, you’re also, simultaneously, giving back to the local community. Famous for their exceptional ability to fuse a rich cultural learning experience with sustainable efforts, AWOL has been awarded the Imvelo Award for their responsible tourism efforts and is also a certified Fair Trade in Tourism organization.

AWOL, which means “a world of learning,” is a proud partner of the Bicycling Empowerment Network (BEN), and works closely with BEN to spread their conservation efforts across the local townships. BEN is a nonprofit organization that works to alleviate poverty through the importation and use of gently used bicycles, and works to promote the bicycle’s health benefits and environmental benefits.

How do you benefit from an AWOL tour?

Unlike any other tour in Cape Town, the AWOL bicycle township tour is filled with a variety of activities that allow you to completely immerse yourself within the local Xhosa culture.

As you stroll through the quaint Masiphymelele township on bicycle (without the confinements of a bus or vehicle), you’ll have the opportunity to observe and interact with the locals in their everyday lives. During your tour, you’ll learn about the Xhosa people’s unique customs and traditions from a highly-knowledgeable and certified local guide.

One of the greatest highlights of the bicycle tour is the chance to view a traditional Xhosa dance performed by a Sangoma (African traditional healer). This is one of the most enlightening experiences of the bicycle tour as it incorporates authentic music with traditional dance rituals. And we promise, you’ve never seen or heard anything like it.

Enjoy an authentic, home cooked meal in an African home and taste the delectable flavors of local spices and produce. During this lunch, you’ll be able to interact with a local family and participate in the cooking experience if you so choose and you will also be able to view the interior of a traditional Masiphymelele home. Nothing is more satisfying than taking the time to see how traditional African cuisine is prepared and learning first-hand cooking lessons from the locals.

See the joyful faces of children at a local pre-school and interact with them for an even deeper insight into the local customs and community lifestyle.

AWOL Bike Tours

How does the community benefit from an AWOL tour?

AWOL strives to sustain the local economy by assisting locals to start up their own business and by employing locals to become qualified guides. This not only allows the locals to proudly share their knowledge of their cultural and historical heritage with visitors, but it also allows them to be paid for these services.

Because the bicycles used in the AWOL bicycle tour are second hand and produce no carbon emissions, they are completely safe for the environment and allow the local community to financially profit from the tours. In addition to helping sustain the local economy, the fact that bicycles produce no gas emissions means a healthier environment and lifestyle for the locals.

Locals who offer their cooking expertise to visitors are also compensated for their efforts and have the opportunity to share their natural born skills with visitors.

For many seasoned travelers, a guided tour is not their idea of a personalized and intimate way to spend a vacation day. Some believe that a tour limits their freedom and ability to enjoy other things they want to see and do, while others think that tours are too expensive and would rather explore on their own. Although all of these reasons are legitimate for most “touristy” tours throughout the world, a Cape Town Peninsula tour with Cape Fusion Tours redefines the traditional guided tour.

Here’s what you’ll get on a Peninsula Scenic Tour through Cape Town with Cape Fusion Tours:

The opportunity to learn from a guide, who is arguably South Africa’s best, Pam.

Based in Cape Town, Pam is equipped with an endless knowledge of the region, its suburbs, the beaches, the historical heritage, the Winelands, and the Garden Route, and is a treat to anyone’s itinerary. With an obvious passion for food, wine, history, and her love for Cape Town, Pam ensures her tours are exceptional affairs, which are often the highlight of travelers’ itineraries.

A low cost rate for an invaluable experience. Because Cape Fusion Tours is passionate about sharing the beauty, rich history, and cultural heritage of Cape Town with all who visit, they believe it’s important to be affordable to all. In addition to a great price, you can also rest assured that your family is safe and free to enjoy their vacation in its entirety.

A journey from Cape Point to the south-westerly point of Africa, the Cape of Good Hope. Cape Point is a peninsula where the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean meet and is a large focus for conservation efforts. Now a nature reserve, this peninsula is home to the highest sea cliffs in the world, two coastlines, a plethora of exotic flora, exceptional wildlife, an eco-friendly boardwalk, sprawling beaches, and gorgeous walking trails. A tour through this area brings out the hidden secrets and elements of the peninsula and opens your eyes to things you otherwise would have never known about had you explored on your own.

Boulders Beach

The rare and truly exceptional opportunity to observe a residential penguin colony on Boulders Beach.

Perfect for all ages, Boulders Beach is the ideal place to observe one of Africa’s most outstanding species, the African penguin. On a peninsula tour you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the penguins, their heritage, and even swim with them! Unique to South Africa, the African penguin is a delightful treat to observe as they are very social and playful creatures.

The chance to observe Cape Town’s magnificent wildlife. Some of the most popular wildlife to see in Cape Town includes baboons, bontebok, ostriches, an abundance of bird life, and the southern right whales. On the peninsula tour, you’ll not only be able to observe these animals in the wild, but you’ll also learn quirky facts about them, and perhaps even get up-close-and-personal with some.

The opportunity to visit Simons Town historical naval base. Whether you’re interested in learning about the exciting history of this naval town, sunbathe on one of the many beaches, or observe penguins in their natural habitat, Simons Town offers something for everyone and a guided tour through the area allows you to experience it all.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Established in 1913, this 528 hectares estate works to conserve the flora indigenous to South Africa and is a haven for nature lovers. Located on the eastern slope of Table Mountain, stunning flowers, shrubs, and fynbos (a coastal vegetation species) make up the fascinating Kirstenbosch gardens. With a backdrop of sharp mountains, fields interlaced with streams, paths, and walkways, the Kirstenbosch estate is home to arguably the world’s most unique botanical gardens.

Experiencing everything Cape Town, South Africa has to offer can be quite a challenge without the guidance of a knowledgeable guide. Although it’s very possible for travelers to explore Cape Town on their own, the fact that there is so much to see and do can be overwhelming for visitors who realize that it’s nearly impossible to do everything on their own. Because a trip to Cape Town is a once in a lifetime opportunity, wouldn’t you want to be able to see it all and understand the deep rooted history and cultural heritage behind Cape Town’s legendary existence?

“‘How can it be so difficult to talk about a trip to South Africa?’ my friends ask me. Profound experiences flooded every day of my Soul Safari. Yet I’m challenged to paint a verbal portrait of the impact this trip has had on my life. There is a soulful depth and breadth to those experiences. There is a quality to the impact of what I saw, felt, tasted, smelled, heard and intuited. The Soul Safari adds up to a life altering experience for me.

I signed up for the Soul Safari because Hills of Africa put together and offered a Safari that included not only a variety of safari events, but also sessions with Ainslie MacLeod, author of The Instruction – Living the Life Your Soul Intended. A Soul Safari! I was thrilled at the prospect of combining wildlife and soul in an organic, eco-conscious environment in both the bush and in the city.

African safari tours

My life, on one of the Canadian Gulf Islands, is peaceful, simple and organic – to the extent that I still chop my own wood, eat food out of local gardens and find a trip to any city exhausting. Obviously, a safari was going to be a bit overwhelming for me, I realized, but I saw that Meredith and Sandy had organized the trip with quality precision and professionalism. Every detail was looked after – I simply had to follow the itinerary.

Being overwhelmed is an understatement. It is breathtaking to experience the energy of lions walking beside the jeep and elephants playing in a mud hole in front of us on the road. My heart nearly burst over the acceptance that these incredible creatures displayed. Something happened to me when I saw wild animals display more dignified acceptance of us than many humans show each other in our world today.

In Cape Town, something happened to me when I felt the energy of Table Mountain. And when I was accepted into a Muslim home where I was invited to help prepare the meal that we shared. And when I saw people living in abject poverty maintain a dignified, welcoming demeanor while sharing who they are so openly. And to see all that they are doing to help their own, and each others’, growth in a variety of healthy ways.

In summary, this was a spiritual experience.

African safari tours

Being back home, if I can be tenacious enough to pick through the profound influences I have been given, I will find threads of new direction. Some threads have revealed themselves sufficiently to be suspect now. These revelatory threads appear slowly, not profoundly. They simply show up when reality hits the road of routine. I hear myself thinking or speaking with a ‘difference’. I don’t want to miss those threads. I ask my soul for the gift of insight and willingness.

Yes, traveling to Africa has been a life altering experience. It’s simply not easy to absorb it all and I am still working on that. I am cocooned in the experiences that bombarded my senses. I am just starting to receive glimpses of inner changes. These changes are still very much under construction!”

From the Pride of Soul Safari 2009,
Whether you’re touring through the internationally-renowned Sistine Chapel or through a historical region rich with deep cultural heritage and mystery, a guided tour is a must if you want to leave with a valuable lasting impression.

Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa is one such region where participating in a guided tour is a must. The history behind its existence coupled with the impression it has on you as you observe it first hand, is what makes the strongest impact. It’s amazing how Cape Town can truly speak to you once you begin to understand the cultural heritage and historical background, and how its past has shaped the region into what you see today.

At the end of your tour you’ll leave with a wealth of knowledge you otherwise would have never had if you decided to view the area on your own without a knowledgeable guide. Although many city tours throughout Africa don’t necessarily require a guide, a Cape Town City and Table Mountain tour is highly-encouraged for visitors in the area who want to experience the authenticity of the region.

One of the most highly-acclaimed tour providers in Cape Town is Cape Fusion Tours. Their knowledgeable and friendly guides ensure you discover all the wonderful elements that make Cape Town and Table Mountain historical and cultural icons. On their off-the-beaten-path tours, you won’t be lectured with boring or popularly known facts found in dusty history text books. You’ll get a rare insight into the region’s profound history and its intricate wilderness.

Why take advantage of a guided tour through Cape Town City and Table Mountain? Simple.

• The rich cultural heritage you’ll become acquainted with. Home to some of the world’s most inspirational cultures, a guided tour through Cape Town provides you with the exceptional opportunity to learn about the indigenous people by interacting and observing them in their daily lives. You’ll also discover the stories and legends of past generations from their living relatives. During your tour, you’ll learn about various art forms and their historical and cultural significance, as well as the lifestyle of certain cultures and how those lifestyles came to be.

• The opportunity to enjoy a guided view of Table Mountain as you journey up the rocky mountainside in a rotating cable car. Each cable car has the ability to fully rotate, giving you the opportunity to see 360 degrees around you. On your cable car trip you’ll see stunning gardens, death-defying cliffs, and playful dassies—furry brown creatures that live on the mountain whose closest relatives are elephants.

You’ll also learn about the history of the cable car and the grounds beneath you as you venture up the mountainside. And awaiting you at the summit is one of the most stunning and indescribable views in the entire world.

• The safety and convenience factors. Because there are 350 routes up the mountain, having a guided tour is highly recommended, as it can be extremely difficult and sometimes dangerous to navigate the mountain on your own. And not to mention the headache of choosing which path to take, out of the 360 different ones! When you experience Table Mountain on a guided tour, you can rest assure that your family is safe. The elimination of the stresses of getting lost or hurt allows you to relax and truly enjoy your trip.

• The deep insight into Malay Quarter’s fascinating evolution into what it is today. You’ll discover how religious influences, changes of European power, and slavery all worked to shape this region into the place it is today.

• The exciting history of The Castle of Good Hope. This military fort relic, which was built between 1666 and 1669 by the Dutch East India Company, was the main protection for Cape Town and was constantly threatened by outside forces. Capturing the combination of the structure’s fascinating history with the sheer size and intricate architecture of the castle can only be experienced while on a guided tour.

• The beauty and captivating scent of the flower market. Over the past 100 years, flower selling has become a cultural tradition on Cape Town’s Adderley Street. On this walking tour you’ll discover the cultural heritage of Adderley Street and meet vendors known for their friendliness and humor, and you’ll have the opportunity to purchase their vibrantly colored flowers.

• The local crafts and works of art at the Green Market Square. Originally Cape Town’s first fruit and vegetable market, Green Market Square is a sensational place to go for cultural enlightenment. Today, it is a market offering African goods and art, and is surrounded by charming cafés that invite visitors to enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and socialize. On your guided tour, you’ll uncover the large impact Green Market Square has on the local community, as well as the local economy.
