Famous for its plentiful wildlife, majestic scenery, and unspoiled terrain, the Singita Pamushana Lodge in Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve is arguably Zimbabwe’s best-kept secret. Situated beneath a canopy of winding trees, Singita Pamushana brings you closer to African nature than you could ever imagine.

The Singita Pamushana Lodge completely embodies its reputation as being one of the most unique places to stay in the world. Built with reflections of nature and African spirit, the tree-like architecture is what makes Singita Pamushana Lodge one of Africa’s most prized gems.

During a recent visit to Pamushana Lodge, Mark Homann—one of our safari consultants and private safari guides—had the pleasure of interviewing one of Pamushana’s esteemed safari guides on the exceptional safari experience in Zimbabwe.

Below is the interview:

How long have you been a guide at Singita Pamushana?

Tell us a little bit about Pamushana Lodge and where it’s located.

Singita Pamushana Lodge is based in South Eastern Zimbabwe in the Malilangwe Private Game Reserve. It’s about 65,000 hectares in extent and at Pamushana we can accommodate up to 16 guests maximum.

What types of activities are offered at Pamushana Lodge?

Most of our guests at Pamushana really enjoy the game drive, which lasts about three hours and we actually go through an environment that has seven different types of habitats and each and every habitat has a variety of animals to offer. And in most circumstances, we come across the Big Five quite often.

We’ve got the leopard with lots of good sightings, herds of elephants, buffalo, and both species of white and black rhino. We also offer fishing on our dam. And fishing is almost always offered after breakfast when it’s a bit warm, and most of the fish that we catch on the dam include the bass, bream, and fighting tiger fish.

We also offer walking safaris on the reserve and something that is very, very spectacular is the tracking of the black rhino, which keeps most of our guests’ adrenaline pumping.

Aside from the excellent black rhino tracking, we also have San Bushman rock paintings and there are over a 100 sites that have been recorded on the reserve and most of them are within the rocky outcrops, which covers 10,000 hectares of the 65,000 hectares of Malilangwe.

When is the best time to visit Pamushana?

All year-round there is spectacular game-viewing at Pamushana, but the peak time is in the summer from the months of August up until December when game comes down to drink from the waterholes. The same applies for predators that are hunting at the same time by the waterholes.

Tell us a little bit about conservation efforts taking place in Zimbabwe.

How has Zimbabwe’s tourism changed over the years?

Zimbabwe is on the right track now after many, many years of isolation from the world and the negative publicity about the country. We’re seeing positive signs of tourism coming back into the country, just like it was in the early 90s. And we look forward to seeing more guests visiting Zimbabwe.

Did you enjoy this post? We’d love to hear from you in our comments section.

Known for its wonderful game-viewing, captivating scenery, and mesmerizing soul, Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, is arguably one of Africa’s greatest unspoiled terrain. This Park is a prime focus for conservation, making it one of the most wildlife-abundant parks in Africa. With over 100 different species of animal and 400 species of bird, Hwange National Park is a must-visit destination for those looking to enjoy an African family safari or honeymoon safari.

One of Hills of Africa Travel’s favorite lodges in Hwange is The Hide Lodge. This Lodge is one of the few accommodations directly situated in the Park. We love The Hide for its joyful staff, friendly atmosphere, prime location, and spectacular accommodations. Each tent provides guests with their own en-suite bathroom for convenience and privacy. The authenticity and comfort of these tents is what gives The Hide its flavorful character.

3) The Hide’s ideal location beside a large waterhole is perfect for game-viewing from your personal tent. And not just any game-viewing. Guests see rhinos, lions, and elephants right outside their tent. Visitors can get even closer to wild game in the Lodge’s concealed hides.
